Obituary for Ann Patrice Van Dyke (nee Jackstadt)
Ann Patrice Van Dyke, nee Jackstadt, age 65, of Collinsville, IL, born November 22, 1952 in East St. Louis, Illinois, passed away Tuesday, July 31, 2018 at Anderson Hospital in Maryville, IL surrounded by her family.
Diagnosed with brain cancer in 2003 and given only months to live, Ann survived almost fifteen years, sustained by family and friends. During this period, Ann’s graceful courage, enduring compassion and beguiling wit inspired all who visited her.
A 1970 graduate of Collinsville High School, Ann became an iconic personality among the shoppers and merchants in downtown Collinsville. After joining the staff of the Mary Ann Shop in 1969, she was named manager of the boutique in 1978. In March 1990, Ann bought the store and re-branded it as the Ann Patrice Shop. Ann served as president of the Downtown Collinsville Merchants Association and was an early promoter of the now long-standing Italian Fest. Her Main Street storefront window decorations regularly won first prize from during the 1990s.
Ann was a member of the League of Women Voters and served for a time on the board of the Collinsville city Planning Commission.
Ann is preceded in death by her parents, Louis and Neva (nee Gerstenecker) Jackstadt.
Surviving are her two sons, George D. (Sheila) Van Dyke IV of Imperial, MO and Geoffrey T. Van Dyke of Alberta, Canada, six brothers, Paul (Jane) Jackstadt of Granite City, IL, Stephen (Dianne) Jackstadt of Collinsville, IL, Tom (Renee) Jackstadt of Collinsville, IL, Eric Jackstadt of Collinsville, IL, Robert (Kathi) Jackstadt of Glen Carbon, IL, Michael Jackstadt of Collinsville, IL, one sister, Christine Jackstadt-Norton of Collinsville, IL and two loving grandchildren, Lily and Joseph Van Dyke.
