Obituary for Dede Hodges
Dede Hodges (nee Van Dyke), 73, born on February 13, 1943 in East St. Louis, IL,
passed away Saturday, January 21, 2017 at Anderson Hospital in Maryville, IL.
She resided in Troy, IL for many years, but lived most of her life in Collinsville, IL.
Dede was a respected teacher in Granite City School District 9 for her entire career. She enjoyed playing bridge, fishing, reading, traveling and shopping.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Don Hodges; parents, Dewey and Blanche (nee Witschie) Van Dyke; a sister, Kim Hartman; grandparents, Dewey and Georgia Van Dyke and John and Louise Witschie; and mother-in-law, Carleen Leonard Hodges.
Dede is survived by her daughter, Brandy Hodges (Tami Bowman) of Collinsville, IL, granddaughter, Kennedy Bowman, brother, Van Van Dyke of AZ, uncles, Rod Van Dyke of Collinsville, IL, and Junior Witschie of Deltona, FL. She is also survived by a niece, nephews, several cousins and many friends.
The family would like to thank all of her friends and caregivers for all of their prayers and moral support throughout her illness.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Partners for Pets, St. Jude Children’s Hospital or the Siteman Cancer Center and will be accepted at church.
A Memorial Service will be held January 24, 2017 at 4:00 p. m. at the Troy United Methodist Church in Troy, IL with Rev. Dennis Price and Rev. David Roderick officiating.
Burial will be held at a later date at St. John’s Cemetery, Collinsville, IL.
