Obituary for Donald L. Masur
Donald L. Masur, age 82, of Collinsville, Illinois, passed away Wednesday, October 22, 2014 at Four Fountains Convalescent Center in Belleville, Illinois. Don is survived by three daughters, Debbie (Gary) Peccola, Donna (Dan) Smith and Dawn (Mark) Farnworth all of Collinsville, IL. Also surviving are four grandchildren, Mark Smith of Ocean Springs, MS, Julia Smith of Pascagoula, MS, Melissa Farnworth Allen of Bloomingdale, GA and Matthew Farnworth of Collinsville, IL, and five great grandchildren, Ashton, Clark, Kara, Racheal & DJ. He was born October 31, 1931 to the late Joseph and Zorayda (nee Nance) Masur. Besides his parents he is preceded in death by his wife, Patsy R. (nee Walker) Masur, who passed away April 20, 2014 and one sister, Jeanette Pejakovich. He married his sweetheart, pat Walker, in 1954. During their 60 years of marriage, they enjoyed life by camping and cruising all over the world. They were best friends and loved spending time with their family and visiting the casinos. Don was an avid walker and after he retired, he walked two miles a day. He made many friends on the routes he walked on a regular basis. He was a man of many skills and talents, and each of those had their own personality. "Farmer Brown's" gardening skills were second to none, and he and Pat enjoyed sharing the produce he raised with family, friends and neighbors. "Chef-Boy-R-Don" was a master on the grill. His ribs and smoked pork roast were the best in town, and breakfast was his specialty. "Mr. Goodwrench" insisted on maintaining all of his vehicles, including oil changes in the weeks before he passed away. Don was an animal lover, whose treasured cat, Mouse, was his pride and joy. He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, who taught all of his family so many lessons merely by the example he set. Donald was an Air Force veteran, serving his country for four years as a radio mechanic. He went on to be an electrical planner with McDonnell-Douglas for over 30 years, including two years that he and Pat spent in Australia working on the F-18 fighter project. A private memorial service will be held at a later date.
