Obituary for Doris I. Patterson
Doris I. Patterson (nee Kress), age 89, of Collinsville, IL passed away Friday, March 21, 2025 at Eden Village Care Center in Glen Carbon, IL.
She was born April 9, 1935 in East St. Louis, IL to the late Arthur J. and Margaret (nee Spagna) Kress. Besides her parents she is preceded in death by her husband, Don Patterson, one daughter, Donna Patterson, a brother, Bob Kress and daughter-in-law, Gail Patterson.
Doris retired from the State of Illinois after 30+ years as a claims processor for the Department of Employment Security. Prior to that she was the first female mail carrier in Collinsville in the early 1960’s. On her route is where she discovered her dream house. More than 20 years later she learned it was for sale and her and Don purchased the house where she still resided after 40 years.
She was a member of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority for over 60 years. She was also the member of many clubs while also volunteering at the Collinsville Library Museum.
She is survived by one son, Dave Patterson of Caseyville, IL, one daughter, Diane Patterson of Collinsville, IL, 2 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild.
Memorials are requested to an animal rescue of the donor’s choice.
