Obituary for Kenneth R Keene
Kenneth R. Keene, born July 1, 1936, in Pinckneyville, Illinois, passed away at home in Collinsville, IL on March 12, 2017, at the age of 80.
Ken graduated from Pinckneyville Community High School with honors in 1954. He attended Illinois Wesleyan University on a first of its kind 3-2 Program where he attended Wesleyan for 3 years and then transferred to Duke University for 2 years in pursuit of an engineering degree. He graduated with 2 degrees, a B.S. from Illinois Wesleyan and a B.S.C.E. from Duke University where he graduated with honors. He obtained a scholarship from the Automotive Safety Foundation to pursue a Masters Degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Illinois. After graduation in 1960 he commenced a 47 year career as a Civil Engineer.
Ken worked 15 years for IDOT, 8 years at his consulting firm, 8 years for the City of Collinsville, 6 years for the Village of Winnetka, Illinois and ten years for local consulting firms.
Ken always said that he had lived through the best of times and that he felt sorry for his children and grandchildren for what is yet to come.
He was preceded in death by his parents Violet (Reith) and Winnie Keene.
Surviving are his best friend and wife, Rita (Carr) Keene, son Douglas Keene, daughter Connie (Dennis) Smith, stepchildren Theresa (Victor) Chavez, Scott (Anita) Geaschel, Victoria (Dale) Geaschel-Robert. Grandchildren are Lisa Pathenos, Aimee (Dirk) Faires, Melissa and Mallory Smith, Douglas Keene II, step grandchildren, Amber (Jake) Arnold, Kyle Touchette, Buddy Geaschel, Victor and Christopher Chavez and great grandchildren Kate and Jessica Ferris, Aubrey Smith, Isabella Arnold and Jay Arnold.
As per Ken's wishes, his remains were cremated.

Memorial Visitation will be held on Sunday March 19, 2017 from 2:00 to 5:00 pm at the Allan and Ciuferi Funeral Home, in Collinsville. Burial will be at a later date.
