Obituary for Phoebe C. Petrie
Phoebe C. Petrie, 88, of Quincy, IL, formerly of Freeport, IL, passed away Thursday, August 23, 2012 at the Illinois Veterans Home in Quincy. She was born July 22, 1924 in Kings Park, New York to the late Claude Wellington and Bertha (nee Lehmann) Smith. Besides her parents she is preceded in death by her husband, Robert (Bob) W. Petrie, who passed away March 12, 2012 and one brother, Claude H. Smith. Surviving are two sons, Robert Petrie of Raleigh, North Carolina and Martin (Lisa) Petrie of Collinsville, IL, seven grandchildren, Helen Lundy, Phoebe Swanson, Cameron, Mason and Grant Petrie, Nathan and Stephanie Grimm and 12 great grandchildren. Phoebe worked for many years at the Freeport Journal-Standard in Freeport, IL. She was a member of the First Lutheran Church in Freeport, Past Worthy High Priestess of Capernaum WSJ, Past President of the Ladies Auxiliary Freeport Commandery #7, Past Worthy Matron of Durand Chapter, Order of Eastern Star and a member of The Shakespeare Society of Freeport, IL. She was also the organist for the White Shrine and many other organizations, playing at their meetings and events. Memorials are requested to the Illinois Veterans Home, 1707 North 12th Street, Quincy, IL 62301 or Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Collinsville. Visitation will be from 11:00 a. m. to 1:00 p. m. on Monday, August 27, 2012 at the Allan & Ciuferi Funeral Home. Funeral services will follow at 1:00 p. m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery, St. Louis, MO. Pastor Michael Walther will officiate.
