Obituary for Velda M. Covarrubias
Velda M. Covarrubias (nee Freise), age 94, of Caseyville, IL, born May 31, 1926 in East St. Louis, IL, passed away December 22, 2020 at Caseyville Nursing and Rehab Center in Caseyville, IL.
She was a secretary before becoming a homemaker. Velda was a member of St. Stephen’s Catholic Church in Caseyville, IL and volunteered many hours at church and school, along with being an avid volunteer for the CHS Band Parents. She was also an auxiliary member of the Veterans of the Battle of the Bulge and the Caseyville Senior Citizens.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Otto H. and Margaret (nee Reidle) Freise, her husband, Oscar L. Covarrubias, 4 brothers, Otto Freise, Clarence Freise, Louis Freise, and Howard Freise, 4 sisters, Margaret Votaw, Viola Freise, Lillian Moreland and Mabel Williamson and a step-son, James Perkins.
She is survived by two sons, Ron (Karen) Covarrubias of Maryville, IL and Leonard (Paula) Covarrubias of Collinsville, IL; one sister, Ruth Williamson of Caseyville, IL; 4 grandchildren, Ryan Covarrubias, Kevin (Shanna) Covarrubias, Melissa Covarrubias and Melanie (Dillon) Hare; 5 great-grandchildren, step-daughter-in-law, Barbara Perkins of Collinsville, IL and numerous nieces and nephews.
A private family visitation will be held.
Those wishing to attend the Graveside Service may meet at Lake View Memorial Gardens Cemetery on Saturday, December 26, 2020 at 11:30 am. Deacon Dave Bohnenstiehl will officiate. Social distancing guidelines will be followed and masks are required.
The family will hold a Celebration of Life when it is safe to gather.
Memorials are requested to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation or to St. Stephen’s Catholic Church and may be mailed to the funeral home.
