Obituary for Jim R. Baker
Jim R. Baker, age 85, of Pharr, TX, formerly of Collinsville, IL, passed away Tuesday, September 30, 2014 in Edinburg, TX. Jim was born on August 10, 1929 in Rush Springs, OK to the late Riley Baker and Alma (nee Pilgrim) Porter. Besides his parents he is preceded in death by his wife, Phyllis J. (nee Scott) Baker, his step-father, Fred Porter and two brothers. Surviving are his daughter, Rita Fouts of Maryville, IL, three sisters, Dolly Ann Westphall of Waco, TX, Virginia Eddleman and Doris Tickins both of Fort Worth, TX, and a special friend, Mary Hoffman of McAllen, TX. Jim owned and operated Baker Turf Supplies at Fairmount Race Track. He was a member of St. John's United Church of Christ, Collinsville Masonic Lodge #712 A.F. & A.M., Scottish Rite Bodies Valley of Southern Illinois and Ainad Shrine Temple. Memorials are requested to Shriners Hospital for Children or St. John's United Church of Christ. Visitation will be on Monday, October 6, 2014 at the Allan & Ciuferi Funeral Home from 9:30 a. m. until 11:30 a. m. Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a. m. with Pastor Tony Minear officiating. Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery, Collinsville.
